More People Died From Selfie-Related Accidents Than Shark Attacks This Year

Who wants to get some extra likes on that selfie?? Well, don’t try anything too crazy because another dude just died trying to get extreme for some IG likes.

It sounds like a joke, but unfortunately it isn’t. Selfies have killed more people then sharks this year. I am not making this sh*t up, it’s science people!

Mashable tallied up the number of selfie-related deaths so far this year, which surpassed double figures and now stands at 12. It is not just trips and falls there have been some pretty nasty stuff. One man was mangled in Spain after trying to snap a pic during a bull run, and two Russian men met their demise while photographing themselves with a live grenade. A woman even managed to shoot herself in the head while posing with a gun.

Mashable compared selfies with the number of shark deaths recorded during the same period: eight. Yes, two-thirds as many have died from shark attacks.

“Before taking a selfie, everyone should think about the fact that racing after a high number of ‘likes’ could lead him on a journey to death and his last extreme photo could turn out to be posthumous,” an aide to Russia’s interior minister told Al Jazeera.
